New into the store this week we have the Wood Wood bags. These happy bags all come with custom smiley zips - we have never seen such a happy zip on a bag before. The zips are all set off with a completely decorative wooden button, lets face it fashion isn’t all about function – if it was we’d all be wearing neoprene all in one jump suits – not good look before 2094! The fabric is padded for a little extra volume and all come in a great Curry colour. Shop them here!

O.H.W.O.W. Backpack

Hopefully you’ve all taken a look at the new additions in our store from O.H.W.O.W - feedback has been really great so we were excited to see their recent carrywear collaboration and thought you might like to cast your eyes over it too! The Miami exhibition space is actually opening a physical store premises in New York shortly mainly selling books but also carrying items and accessories by select designers. Co-founder of O.H.W.O.W. Al Moran said “Aside from our publications, we’ll also be carrying some accessories and objects made for us by our friends and family.”

One of the pieces that will be available at the opening is this backpack that has been created by recent Medicom Toy collaborator Darren Romanelli a.k.a Dr Romanelli who will also be creating some other pieces for the new store. Al says “This backpack was produced for our grand opening by one of my closest friends Darren Romanelli. We’ve been talking about doing something together for a while now and I’m psyched that he found the time to develop a small line of bags and caps for us.”

Perks and Mini bags

We saw a rather natty bag online last night from one of our brands and very nice it was too. The black tote bag has a rather jazzy Egyptian / hieroglyphic print in red and some very sweet pom-pom details. It looks pretty practical too: it’s a nice size and the strap looks ideal for some comfy-over-the-shoulder carrying. Now if pom-poms aren’t you’re thing, take a look at our range of Perks and Mini bags which are equally practical but pom-pom free.

For those of you who don’t know much about Perks and Mini, here’s a bit of background. Perks and Mini (a.k.a. P.A.M) are based in Melbourne, Australia and is the brainchild of Misha Hollenbach and Shauna T. and their aim is to create a dimension where “all things nice, strange, beautiful and humorous collide”. Since the company’s birth in 2000, Misha and Shauna have collaborated with numerous people from a range of backgrounds including graphics, art, music and books. Collaborators include Soulwax (2 Many DJ’s), EYE (Boredoms), Fergadelic and Undercover (Jun Takahashi). And it’s far more than just bags that they create! Take a look through the cross section of their products that we stock, and you’ll get a proper idea of how eclectic they can be!

Gregory Japan bags

We have a lot of google alerts set up to help keep an eye on all the latest news from our brands and some have quite a few regular results, and some absolutely loads, and some are so infrequent we have to pinch ourselves when they pop up. One of these more elusive brands is Gregory Japan. We stock a range of their bags including day sacks and duffel bags but so far we’ve never had a bean from google about them. Pretty exclusive stuff – we like that! The content of the alert wasn’t massively exciting – it was an advert for their “Tailmate” bumbag (we stock the XS version if you want to take a look) – but we thought we’d use it as an excuse to shed some light on this exclusive brand.

A lot of items produced by Gregory are aimed at the high-performance end of the outdoor pursuit market and as a result are very high quality, which is why we chose to market a selection of their products. Our bags are aimed more at the “lifestyle” market rather than the “let’s conquer Everest” market, but it’s good to know they have a hardcore ancestry! The company was founded in 1977 by Wayne Gregory in San Diego in the backroom of his shop. They would listen to the issues and experiences of their customers and incorporate them into the design of the backpacks being developed in the back room. Consequently, Gregory products were already several steps ahead of the rest having been designed to deal with most situations that crop up on a mountain.

Hyde S.K. bags

Following our recent post about Patagonia’s online pat on the back for being goodies when it comes to the environment, we thought we’d mention some new “vegan” bags from Hyde S.K. Sacha Knight, one of Hyde S.K.’s London based designers, has produced the ethnic-influenced bags as part of a new range: the “Stills” two-way tote, the “Luna” and “Ootchi Kooch” shoulder bags and the “Gram” backsack.

The Stills is a denim and lorica tote that has both hand-handles and a shoulder strap and is available in several colours including black with grey detailing and a pastel / burnt orange with grey detailing. It features a large main compartment with useful inside pockets and some rather nice embroidery and the Hyde S.K. signature tassel. The Luna and Ootchi Kooch are dyed denim shoulder bags with a tie-dyed cotton lining, lorica tassel detailing and magnetic closures and again the rather nice ethnic embroidery. The Gram (our favourite since you ask) is very individual and looks like two traditional hand-bags stacked on top of each other, it features a double opening, hand-covered wood buttons, the same tie-dyed lining as the others and adjustable straps.

All four bags are handmade in London and are well worth hunting down – let us know what you think of them – but in the meantime take a look at our range of Hyde S.K. bags in our store.
