Norse Projects X Hestra Arrive gloves available in-store and online tomorrow.

Misaki Kawai was born in 1978 and grew up in Osaka, Japan. Her Father being an architect and Sunday painter, and her mother making clothing and puppets by hand. Like many other adolescent Japanese girls, she was influenced by western pop culture to a fanatical degree. She was greatly fascinated with 60’s fashion and hippie culture, often following her mother’s example and hand making clothes for herself. Although her mother’s needlework was impeccable, Misaki favored a more haphazard handmade look. Australian label and The Goodhood Store favorite Perks & Mini recently commissioned Misaki to design a Cowichan inspired cardigan. Take a look at our feature here.

On September 20th we shall be launching the Carhartt Heritage line in the Goodhood Store and online. To coincide with the launch we have teamed up with Carhartt to hold an exclusive exhibition on the evening of the 20th of some early Carhartt pieces from the archives – dating as far back as 1900′s. The event will be one for any workwear and denim enthusiast. See a teaser of the Carhartt Heritage collection below.

We’ve had calls, emails, Tweets and smoke signals as to when Norse Projects is dropping and we are now happy to report that the first drop is now available in store and will be available online this week. There are some really special pieces including last years smash hit the Elka jacket, flecked tees, simple beanies and some of the cleanest cut shirts this year. Cycle enthusiasts and Goodhood Store favourites Perks & Mini have put together a ltd edition tee with Mash San Francisco’s famed fixed gear cycle crew. PAM continue to collaborate with the best names in the business, is there no end to their list of collaborators. This one has certainly split public opinion – the god squad have got busy commenting on this graphic. Personally the Egyptian tickler brought a smile to our faces!

Our regular customers will know we have been updating the store, we have completed around half of the planned changes which include new lighting, new interior colour and other elements, all of which will become apparent in good time. However one of the changes we would like to share with you now is the windows which have been completed in a traditional sign writers style. The windows were undertaken by friend and local artist Word To Mother. Having hand painted signage is a increasingly forgotten art, and in these days of a heightened appreciation of craftsmanship its the sort of element that we feel proudly raises the bar against the norm of the standard sticky decal.  The process is extremely time consuming so its easy to see how it has fallen by the way to much faster and more accurate processes. The finished result has all the imperfections of a human hand… and we think looks incredible.
