One of the most influential streetwear designers of recent times has to be Russel Maurice of, Gasius. But Russel’s also an accomplished artist (which is actually what first got him into clothes production) and some of his work is soon to be shown as part of an exhibition being held in Los Angeles. Opening 2 days ago on the 20th February and running through until March the 13th, the Scion Installation LA Gallery is hosting an exhibition entitled ‘It Was on Earth That I Knew Joy’ which explores the theme of Man vs. Machine and the increasingly blurry boundaries between humans and the technology we create.
The show is being curated by Sixpack France and will feature their new short film (also called ‘It Was on Earth That I Knew Joy’) along with a variety of installations and 15 original posters including an exclusive design by Gasius main-man Russel. Ok, Los Angeles is a long way to go for a show, but Russel’s been fairly quite recently so it’s nice to know what he’s been up to, and if you’re in L.A. while the shows on, it definitely sounds worth taking a look!
