We are very pleased to let you know that the new collaboration collection between us and R. Newbold has started to arrive from Tokyo, and boy is it looking good, if you don’t mind us saying so. First up, follow your eyes to the striped parka – we are rating this as a flawless summer jacket, it ticks all the boxes for us and it has a removable hood that reveals a very neat shawl collar. Also we have an amazing reversible double layered shirt – check on one side, neon flecked chambray on the other – yes you read that right: Neon Flecked Chambray! It simply doesn’t get better than that! Or maybe we can actually turn the dial to 11!! We have our pink or faded red if you prefer jeans in, they have a faded, preppy feel to them with the bright colour reserved for the inside, perfectly revealed when you turn them up!! Before we all disappear into a sea of brown cord, come on people you know we need a bit of colour in this here wardrobe of ours. Please don’t overlook the jersey pieces - the pocket tee, has leopard print binding and the sweats are just plain nice. Please click here to view.
One of the most influential streetwear designers of recent times has to be Russel Maurice of, Gasius. But Russel’s also an accomplished artist (which is actually what first got him into clothes production) and some of his work is soon to be shown as part of an exhibition being held in Los Angeles. Opening 2 days ago on the 20th February and running through until March the 13th, the Scion Installation LA Gallery is hosting an exhibition entitled ‘It Was on Earth That I Knew Joy’ which explores the theme of Man vs. Machine and the increasingly blurry boundaries between humans and the technology we create.
Those who read this journal on a regular basis will know that we’ve constantly got our eyes peeled for news on our favourite brands, so here’s the latest…Opening Ceremony recently collaborated with music video, short film and movie directing legend Spike Jonze on a line of gear to celebrate the release of Spike’s take on Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. For anyone who hasn’t heard of Spike Jonze, firstly where there hell have you been? Secondly, he’s the guy responsible for some of the greatest music promos of all time like Sabotage by the Beastie Boys and Drop by Pharcyde.
It’s good to be proud of your roots which is why it’s nice to see goodhood brand Reigning Champ teaming up with a fellow Vancouver based company, Livestock, to produce a range of hoodies in honour of VC. The collaborative project is called “Made in Vancouver” and is said to have been influenced by the culturally diverse background of the city and its residents which is possibly why they chose hoodies – they’re one of the most universally worn items out there next to socks, pants and jeans (feel free to reply and disagree – discussion is a good thing people!).
One Denim hailed as “jeans for true denim connoisseurs,” are an amalgamation of all the icons of the best known denim brands. Its spec reads like a roll call of the most arrogant pair of jeans you ever wanted. There’s a whole load of details that make these appeal to the denim purists. Purist or not its the subverted details that really make me smile – you could look at them like a progression from where Evisu let go.. i can hear the Levi’s coorporate lawyers now.. but its an arcuate upside down! The injunction will be in the post.
Sometimes things happen that even make us go wow, and this is certainly one of them. If you are in Tokyo this month there is a retrospective exhibition of Goodhood X R. Newbold collections at the Paul Smith Box Gallery in Daikanyama. The exhibition showcases the 4th joint collection we have done with R. Newbold, and also key pieces from the past collections. We would like to extend an enormous thanks to all the team at Paul Smith and R. Newbold.
As part of the spring / summer 2010 collection, Junya Watanabe has pulled out yet another top end jacket which will become the envy of anyone that spots one. This time round they’ve opted to release a highly practical and functional raincoat with the help of classic UK rainwear brand, Mackintosh but as with most CdG gear it’s the details that set it apart from the rest. They’ve used a rubberized waterproof base material for this jacket to ensure maximum functionality and this great looking piece will be available in dark green, beige or the blue pictured.
