When bringing together plans for our Goodhood Life store, one of the brands we were most excited about working with and sharing with you was Gelchop. Founded by designers Ryota Morikawa and Testsuya Ozawa, Gelchop is an artistic collective based out of Japan producing some of the most weird, wild and wonderful furniture and design objects on the market. Predominantly working with the theme of nature and natural living mixed with a distinct cartoon graphic style and trademark white fibre-reinforced plastic, Gelchop have amassed a cult following with design fans the world over while maintaining a strict underground DIY work process. Some of our Tokyo retail-savvy customers will no doubt recognise Gelchop for their work on the excellent General Research store in Nakemeguro or perhaps the giant 10-foot KAWS Companion sculpture that greets you at the entrance of the OriginalFake boutique in Aoyama.
All in all the brand remain quite elusive outside of their native country, so it is with great pleasure that we are now an exclusive International Gelchop stockist, starting with two of brands's most iconic pieces, the Log Stool and Kirikabu 'Tree Stump' Stool. Crafted out of FRP, the stools feature excellent Gelchop cartoon-style detailing throughout and would make a great fixture for any modern home. Although built for intended use a stool, the Log and Stump make for excellent side tables, foot rests and general objects of beauty.
