TURTLE ISLAND MEDITATION EQUIPMENT (T.I.M.E.) is a concept created by Joe Roberts (LSD Worldpeace) Brad Staba (Skate Mental) and Romeo Trinidad (Very Special). In July 2022, the trio formalised the brand, aimlessly walking through the city of Berkeley, California, while taking pipe hits of Changa sprinkled with granules of DMT. What came out of the six hour city hike is still a mystery, but created energy to explore and contribute to the power of mind expansion. We caught up with Joe Roberts to find out a little more... Check it out below, and shop T.I.M.E.
GOODHOOD: Can you describe T.I.M.E. in one sentence?
JOE ROBERTS: Turtle Island Meditation Equipment
GH: What’s your favourite painting/drawing you’ve made?
JR: I don’t really have a favorite, for me it is more about the process of making things and not so much about the final piece. The tapping in part of creating. When auto pilot comes on.
GH: A lot of people will recognise your graphics from your partnerships with brands like GX1000, Supreme, Brain Dead, Good Morning Tapes and more. Was working with these brands what led to the inception of T.I.M.E.?
JR: Not exactly. T.I.M.E. is a project made by three people. Romeo Trinidad, Brad Stab and myself. It wouldn’t exist without the three of us. We each play our parts.
"FOR ME IT IS MORE ABOUT THE PROCESS OF MAKING THINGS AND NOT SO MUCH ABOUT THE FINAL PIECE"
GH: We heard that the origin of T.I.M.E. came from a DMT sprinkled hike through Berkeley. Tell us about that day...
JR: Top Secret ;)
GH: Your Grandfather was a huge inspiration on your practice, can you tell us about that?
JR: He taught me how to hop trains when I was seven years old.
GH: You've lived in SF for over twenty years. What makes San Francisco a special place to live?
JR: The ghosts.
GH: Favourite books/zines you own, and why?
JR: A copy of “The Catcher and the Rye”, a reminder that I fell off the cliff a long time ago.
GH: What are you working on right now?
JR: Raising my son. Learning from him.
GH: What do you listen to while you paint?
JR: Today I’m listening to Sunburned Hand of the Man.
GH: If you could give any piece of advice to your 18 year old self, what would it be?
JR: Travel with respect and see as much of the world as you can.
GH: What is your dream brand link up for T.I.M.E.?
JR: LifeStraw
GH: What does the future hold for T.I.M.E.?
JR: 7 1 111 3
"TRAVEL WITH RESPECT AND SEE AS MUCH OF THE WORLD AS YOU CAN"
GH: If you were stranded on a desert island and could have 3 items with you, what would you choose?
JR: Axe, lighter, rope.
GH: What advice would you give to the next generation of young painters and artists coming up?
JR: Take a break. Do nothing sometimes. Just be.
GH: What is the key to happiness?
JR: I'm not sure. Maybe adopt a puppy.
