CREATIVE LIVING - Sahra Mist
We step inside the home of Goodhood Life Store manager Sahra Mist to talk living in London, furnishing her home and the perfect Sunday.
Where are you from originally? What made you want to make the move to London?
I was born and grew up in Hampshire by the sea but moved to London nine years ago for Uni and haven’t left since. Clapton is my home for now.
What are your favourite food spots?
To eat out it's 'My Neighbours the Dumplings'. Seriously good hand made dumplings! You’ll have to wait for a table but there is a Sake bar in the basement with a changing weekly cocktail menu. To eat in it has to be Yard Sale Pizza...my Friday ritual. Don’t forget the garlic dip…
What are your three favourite brands at the Life Store right now?
- Hasami Porcelain. Each piece is made from a specific mixture of porcelain substance and clay, creating a super clean matte texture that is firmer and sharper than earthenware yet still very comfortable to hold, plus any meal will look great in them.
- Puebco. We've stocked this for a while now and it fits the Life Store's aesthetic perfectly. It's utilitarian living at its finest.
- Snow Peak. Born out of a dissatisfaction with outdoor product, Snow Peak strive to create the most superior gear on the market. They've just released a Field Oven that attaches onto the Pack & Carry Fireplace that can heat a pizza up in five minutes...revolutionary camping!
What is your favourite item at the Life Store?
This is forever changing but right now I’m really enjoying making pour over coffee from my handcrafted Kinto Slow Coffee Carafe.
How do you go about choosing what you buy for your home?
I just buy what I like, old and new. Your home should make you happy but at the same time it’s important to be memorable. Even though I own a lot of stuff, I tend to only buy things that are well designed and made.
Do you collect anything?
I used to collect Lego minifigures but it got out of hand. There was once a hotdog shaped figure I was after for ages and made my brother drive round four stores until we found it (they’re blind packed so you have to feel your way through the packaging).
If you had to pick a favourite item in your house, what would it be?
It would have to be my PAM x Medicom Toy Missing Link figures. It took me a while to get all three from over the globe but it was worth the search.
Could you describe your dream house?
I think my dream house is something that will come together organically over time, I’m just having fun at the moment collecting things that will one day make up a bigger picture. I’d like to own more mid-century pieces so I can pair them with my current possessions. Next on my wishlist is a 1960’s sofa.
What's your perfect Sunday?
Sunday's are all about rest and recuperation. My perfect Sunday would involve a morning of coffee paired with some fresh bread and raspberry jam followed by an afternoon spent wandering around Lee Valley Marina up to Hackney Wick spying on all the narrowboats.
What are your plans for Summer?
I'm going to Japan, it's my first time and I'm super excited.
