We build the 5 core looks that should be in everyone's wardrobe. It's the fundamental rules of style, and nothing else. Featuring picks from Norse Projects, Folk, Stan Ray and more...

Sweatshirt by YMC, T-Shirt by Folk, Trousers and Cap by Norse Projects, Shoes by Converse, Socks by Neighborhood, Sunglasses by Super, Tote Bag by Goods By Goodhood.

This first outfit distils all the classics into one. The original Breton stripe may date back to the 1850s when it was introduced as the uniform for the French navy, but nowadays the striped tee in its many forms – here by Folk – is a wardrobe staple. Norse Projects’ Aros is a classic high-waist chino that can be used for both casual and smarter outfits, whilst Converse’s All Star 70s take the iconic All Star silhouette even further with enhanced fit and detailing. YMC’s Deliverance crew fleece makes this the perfect transitional outfit, whilst the whole look’s elevated by small detailing, such as Norse’s twill sports cap and a large Goodhood Life Store tote.

Jacket by Folk, Shirt by Norse Projects, T-Shirt by Goods by Goodhood, Trousers by Stan Ray, Shoes by Clarks Originals, Socks by Anonymous Ism, Flask by Klean Kanteen.

Sitting at the base of this outfit is the ultimate basic: the white tee. Our Goods by Goodhood Classic t-shirt is crafted from super-soft cotton and with the fit and appeal of a vintage jersey. This is layered with the Norse Projects Anton, a Scandinavian take on the classic Oxford shirt, cut from a fine striped cotton. Contrasting with the top half, Stan Ray’s fatigue trousers come in an earthy olive drab. The workwear giant has been producing staples since the early ‘70s, so they know a thing or two when it comes to hard-working, hard-wearing garments. Adding to the utility, Folk’s featherweight jacket is perfect on, and easy to carry off. This one’s meant for those tricky in-between months. Finish off with Clarks Originals – the Wallabee dates back to the ‘60s and adds a smarter touch to an otherwise casual outfit, along with the Anton. Finally, add the Klean Kanteen Café Cup, the eco-friendly and practical way to keep water fresh whilst on-the-go.

Designers Remix Jacket

Jacket, Sweatshirt and Beanie by Norse Projects, Jeans by Levi's Vintage Clothing, Shoes by Vans, Wallet by Comme Des Garçons Wallets, Socks by Have A Good Time.

Sometimes the classics are hands-down the best, and that’s certainly the case here. Levi’s are the quintessential American denim manufacturer, and their Riptides 1976 501’s are about as classic Americana as it gets. Norse’s Ryan Poplin Jacket makes for a refined interpretation of the signature MA1 bomber, and in black will suit just about anything, including their white premium interlock crew neck sweatshirt. Perhaps the only shoe for a black and white top has to be Vans’ most classic sneaker – the checkerboard Slip-On LX. The finishing touch, though, lies in the detail – a contrasting Norse rib beanie and Comme des Garçons leather wallet, both available in pretty much any colour you’d ever want.

Jacket by Neighborhood, T-Shirt by Have A Good Time, Long Sleeve T-Shirt by Nanamica, Trousers by Dickies, Bucket Hat by Stussy, Shoes by Reebok, Socks by Anonymous Ism.

It always starts with Dickies. Skaters have long co-opted the workwear brand for sheer practicality – hard-wearing workwear makes sense when you’re constantly getting scuffed, but the label’s become somewhat of a streetwear staple. Their classic cut 874 work pants in charcoal grey are no exception. As a base, the graphic tee’s also the way to go, and Tokyo label Have A Good Time put out some of the best prints around. Layering with Nanamica’s COOLMAX stripe jersey tee makes for a practical, transitional top. It’s classic styling, with modern Japanese garment technology. Sticking with Tokyo, Neighborhood’s Drizzler jacket is easily the ultimate outerwear piece, with all the classic styling of Shinsuke Takizawa’s cult Japanese label distilled into one. The only way to finish it off is with more absolute classics – Reebok’s Workout Plus, and Stussy’s washed stock bucket hat.

Shirt by Trés Bien, Shorts by Folk, Vest by Neighborhood, Soes by Adidas, Socks by Anonymous Ism, Sunglasses by Super.

Ashley Williams Jacket

Finally, the patterned shirt. Sweden’s Trés Bien are offering up probably the best we’ve seen this season, with their boxy sunset print Tourist shirt in red, white, and black. For the ultimate Miami Vice look wear open with Neighborhood’s classic ribbed vest – the Tokyo label’s basics are unrivalled in quality and fit. Folk’s utility shorts make for a toned-down bottom half with their practical 5-pocket construction, whilst a pair of Adidas Campus in core black rounds off the look. Somewhat underrated, the Campus has been a low-key part of the Originals line for years and comes in a suede finish with retro ‘80s styling, a hark back to the basketball courts and hip-hop culture from which they were born.
