Tremaine Emory under the moniker Denim Tears updates the classic American icon, the Converse Chuck Taylor with artist David Hammons 1990 work called the African American Flag. The flag uses the symbolic colours black, red & green adopted to represent the black experience in the United States. If the Chuck is a classic expression of American culture, does its meaning transform when it reflects the Black experience? More than a sneaker, it is a canvas for conversation. Emory’s shoe seeks to be a catylyst for conversation and change and a message to all that "the future is yours."
