Stella Ishii is the founder and co-owner of The NEWS, the New York-based fashion showroom which plays host to a selection of brands. In the Spring of 2013, Stella founded 6397, an alphanumeric rendering of N-E-W-S on a telephone keypad; the brand reflects her personal style and the women who work alongside her. With a design philosophy driven by real life, 6397 celebrates the spirit of individuality and community, with nods to timeless fashion, youth and counterculture. The NY flagship store opened recently; an outlet stroke gallery space with a DIY mentality.
A fresh take on basics, 6397 ditches the slouch with a selection of warped prints, oversized silks and playfully rebellious graphics. Their Spring/Summer ’19 collection is a vibrant take on statement lounge dressing via relaxed shapes and youthful attitude.
‘We saw many cool knit jumpers and cardigans this season, but this 6397 cardigan stood out as something bold, with a dose of new wave attitude.’
COLOUR PALETTE & PRINT
A call to arms for lively staples, the collection features baggy houndstooth pants, printed tees, recreational leaf motif cardigans, and more. With a playfully sexy ethos, the brand’s founder elaborates on the method to her mindset: ‘there’s nothing sexier than a cleverly revealed sliver of collarbone or the nape of a neck’.
‘We chose this colour palette as the monochrome and light wash denim compliment the blush pinks really well. The pieces pair together in an effortless way. ‘
The beauty of 6397 lies in how easily their pieces can be paired with your staples, ramping your everyday looks up to 11.
‘The boyfriend fit… light wash denim works well styled with Vans and a baggy t-shirt; simple and casual and will only get better with age!’
‘If you’re looking for a relaxed summer outfit, this is the perfect set. The distorted checkered print on silk fabric is a great balance of playful yet premium. Pair this look with the Dr.Martens Blaire sandals and you’re complete.’
