Joy Division's 1979 debut remains one of the most singular records to come out of the UK post-punk scene — Martin Hannett's cavernous, echo-laden production turning Ian Curtis's bleak lyricism and the band's tense, motorik rhythms into something genuinely eerie. Released on Factory Records with Peter Saville's iconic pulsar sleeve, it's a record that shaped the sound of goth, industrial and post-punk for decades after.
