Burial's self-titled 2006 debut arrived out of nowhere on Hyperdub and redrew the boundaries of UK dance music, pulling 2-step garage's skippy rhythms into a rain-soaked, vocal-sampling world of its own. Its ghostly atmosphere and anonymous release strategy became as influential as the music itself, laying the groundwork for what would become dubstep's more introspective wing.
