American Football's self-titled 1999 debut is a cornerstone of the emo and Midwest emo canon, built on intricate clean guitar interplay, trumpet flourishes and Mike Kinsella's wistful, understated vocals. Recorded by a band that split up almost as soon as it was finished, the album became a slow-burning cult favourite whose influence on emo and indie revival acts has only grown with time.
