Enviromental Responsibility
Environmental Responsibility
We recognise the environmental impact of operating a retail business. Our approach is focused on reducing waste, extending the life of products and making considered choices across the way we buy, operate and fulfil orders.
Our approach: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Our Philosophy
Quality and longevity have always been fundamental to the way we buy. We look for well-made products with relevance beyond a single season, rather than buying solely around short-term trends.
Our aim is to offer products that people value, use and keep for longer. We believe buying fewer, better products and extending their useful life is an important part of reducing unnecessary consumption and waste.
Our Locations & Transport
Goodhood is based in East London, with our store, office and warehouse located close to one another. Our team makes use of walking, cycling and public transport, while bicycles are also used for journeys between our locations where practical.
Energy
We regularly review the energy used across our business and look for opportunities to reduce consumption and improve the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations.
Recycling & Waste
First Mile manages waste and recycling across our business, allowing us to separate materials including cardboard and mixed recycling from general waste.
First Mile operates a zero-to-landfill service, meaning residual waste that cannot be recycled is diverted from landfill and used for energy recovery.
Online Deliveries
We use DHL to deliver our online orders. DHL is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its logistics network through measures including electric delivery vehicles, sustainable fuels and network optimisation.
DHL has set a target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. By 2030, it aims to electrify more than 66% of its pickup and delivery fleet and increase the share of sustainable fuels used across its operations to more than 30%.
Packaging
We continually review our packaging with the aim of reducing unnecessary materials while ensuring products remain protected throughout the delivery process.
Our current mailer bags are made from LDPE, a recyclable plastic chosen for its strength and low weight. Their durability allows us to minimise additional protective packaging while helping products arrive safely.
We encourage customers to reuse our mailers wherever possible and recycle them through an appropriate flexible-plastic recycling service when they reach the end of their useful life.
Looking Forward
There is no single solution to reducing the environmental impact of retail. We will continue to review our packaging, logistics, energy use and waste management as better materials, technologies and infrastructure become available.
Our aim is to make practical improvements across the business and be transparent about the choices we make along the way.
